SUMMARY:Feast of the Assumption
DESCRIPTION:For the past 122 years\, the Parish of Holy Rosary has hosted the celebration of Feast of the Assumption in Cleveland’s Little Italy neighborhood\, located on Mayfield Road near University Circle (with the exception of 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic). \n \nThe Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary\, a Catholic Holy Day on August 15\, commemorates Mary being taken into Heaven. A solemn Mass is celebrated in the Church at 10:00 a.m.\, after which the statue of the Virgin Mary is taken in procession throughout the neighborhood. During the four days of festivities\, booths are set up in the Churchyard featuring Italian foods\, desserts\, live music and rides for young children. Independent vendors also have booths on the street. The Rosary is prayed daily at 6:00 p.m. at the shrine to Our Lady of the Assumption\, located on the east side of the church and a religious articles booth is located near the shrine. On the final evening of the Feast a candlelight procession is held to honor Mary. A short prayer service concludes our tribute to God for all the good He has done through the intercession of Mary\, the Mother of Jesus. DESCRIPTION:This tournament is a fundraiser for the Alta House in memory of John Anthony Cipullo\, and it is the 32nd JAC tournament fundraiser since its establishment in May of 1992. So come out\, support a great cause\, and cheer on your favorite bocce teams as they compete for the title of champion. \nGet ready for an exciting weekend of bocce at the 2023 JAC Bocce Tournament\, held at the beautiful Alta House in historic Little Italy Cleveland\, Ohio. The tournament will take place from July 21st to July 23rd\, starting at 5 pm on Friday and running until midnight\, and on Saturday from 8 am to midnight. Sunday’s schedule is yet to be determined. \nThis event is open to the public and free for all spectators to attend. DESCRIPTION:Little Italy Cleveland GardenWalk is a free\, self guided tour of over 40+ private gardens in Cleveland’s Little Italy. Spend the day exploring historic Little Italy and its many beautiful gardens created with love and dedication by our neighbors. \n\n \n\nLittle Italy has again been selected to be one of the Cleveland neighborhoods participating in GardenWalk Cleveland. The mission of Gardenwalk is to beautify neighborhoods and encourage civic pride through free tours of community\, home\, and business gardens in neighborhoods. This year\, the self-guided tour of Little Italy gardens will be held on Sunday\, July 9th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can visit the info station at 2024 Murray Hill Road (Mount Granita Italian Ice) to pick up maps of participating gardeners. \nIn addition to Little Italy\, the following neighborhoods will also be featured: Fairfax\, Glenville\, Ohio City\, Old Brooklyn\, Tremont\, West Park\, Slavic Village\, Clifton-Baltic\, Collinwood\, and Detroit Shoreway. Each neighborhood will be open to visitors one day – either Saturday or Sunday. \nThis event shines a spotlight on the beauty of Little Italy and is an open invitation for neighbors and visitors to explore our cherished neighborhood. Visitors often rekindle past ties of relatives\, growing up here or attending college in the area. Neighbors also have the opportunity to meet one another and share gardening tips. Gardenwalk provides a more intimate view of our unique neighborhood. \nLast year\, we had over 40 residents and businesses show off their green thumbs\, and we welcomed over 500 visitors to our beautiful walkable neighborhood. This year\, we hope to have even more neighbors sign up. Gardens do not need to be fancy; if you’re proud of it\, show it off! All types and sizes are welcome: potted plants\, vegetable or shade gardens\, flower gardens\, interesting and unique styles\, ones with yard decorations and those without. We are looking for as many folks as possible who are willing to welcome their gardens to the community. \nLittle Italy will welcome visitors on Sunday\, July 9th. We will provide you with a yard sign to assist visitors in locating open gardens. Homeowners need not be present\, although talking with visitors and answering questions about your garden and our beloved neighborhood is part of the fun! DESCRIPTION:Explore Italy’s regional cuisine\, culture\, and language with Dr. Paola Basile\, Professor of Italian Studies\, Lake Erie College \n \nThe Classes:\nDuring the 6-class seminar\, attendees will explore various facets of six different Italian regions\, including the language\, culture\, food\, and wines\, with Dr. Paola Basile\, a native of Italy and Professor of Italian Studies at Lake Erie College in Painesville\, Ohio. \nEach class will feature a different Italian region. The first part of the class will be a presentation on and discussion about the region’s culture and language. During the second part of class\, attendees will have the opportunity to taste regional wines and sample regional cuisine as prepared by Little Italy chefs. \nClass Schedule:\nClass time is 10:30a-12:30p. You may register for all 6 classes or select individual classes you would like to attend. Class size is limited\, so register early. \nSept 10 – Valle d’Aosta\nSept 24 – Veneto\nOct 8 – Abruzzo\nOct 22 – Sardegna\nNov 5 – Calabria\nNov 19 – Puglia \nCost: $30 per class or register for all six at the discounted rate of $150. \nLocation: All classes take place at the Italian American Museum of Cleveland (IAMCLE) located in the heart of Cleveland’s Little Italy (between Presti’s and Maxi’s.)
